A Senior-Friendly Art Workshop in KL

A Senior-Friendly Art Workshop in KL

Last Tuesday, two groups joined our ocean art workshop: a son with his mother, and an elderly couple. By the end of the session, the room was filled with a touching belief — that everyone has the ability to create.

At first, the mak cik kept seeking reassurance about her design and even asked if we could do it for her. Instead, we encouraged her step by step because we genuinely believed she could. As she continued, her confidence grew. She began sharing her ideas, refining her layout, and arranging every detail herself. In the end, she handcrafted her own ocean tray — and it turned out beautifully.

For the elderly couple, uncle joined because aunty was captivated by our ocean lamp display. We encouraged them to make their own instead of buying a readymade one. Aunty hesitated at first — she had never joined an art workshop before — but with our patient guidance, she gradually relaxed, even chuckling during the sketching stage while working alongside Uncle. Together, they created a stunning ocean lamp to place in their bedroom.

These two experiences reminded us of something important: the ability to create has nothing to do with age. Creativity isn’t reserved for the young — seniors can create too. In fact, their life experiences and wisdom often give them a unique advantage in design.

As an ocean art workshop provider, we’re proud of our systematic and inclusive approach, welcoming people from all walks of life. And perhaps, after attending our workshop, some may even reshape their self-identity — discovering that they are capable of creating.
