Invitation from the National Art Gallery Malaysia
As an ocean art practitioner in Malaysia since 2017, we have experienced many ups and downs while searching for our true positioning. Despite the challenges, we developed a sustainable business strategy that allows us to survive in a market shaped by public expectations. Throughout this journey, we often questioned: Is there truly a space where art and business can coexist? It wasn’t until we received an invitation from the National Art Gallery Malaysia (Balai Seni Negara) that we finally found our answer.
The government-initiated program Sebab Boleh Nat Ubah Suai aims to develop local arts, unite communities through diverse artistic activities, and strengthen Malaysia’s presence as an international arts and cultural destination. This three-day event will take place in Langkawi starting from 25 December 2025. We believe it will attract tourists celebrating Christmas on the island, indirectly giving Lasprecious Design a broader exposure.
The factor of business transformation
Our main business stream is the ocean art experience workshop, where we guide participants step-by-step to create their own artwork. As we observed a decline in customized ocean art furniture demand, the workshop became a significant source of revenue that allows us to continue operating.
Carrying the dual identities of workshop facilitator and ocean artist places us in a “grey zone” within the art world. Yet, we find profound fulfilment in both roles. We take joy in seeing participants leave happily after completing their artwork, and we also value the trust and recognition we receive from clients for our custom ocean art furniture.
Our belief towards this industry
The calling of an artist is to evoke human emotion through their work, but an artist can only fully devote themselves to creation when their livelihood is secured. Without the retail segment of our experience workshops, it would have been difficult for us to remain in this industry amid the decline in custom ocean art furniture.
The invitation from the National Art Gallery Malaysia is a strong indicator that our homeland values diverse forms of art to nurture the public’s aesthetic sense. We believe our art workshops serve as a bridge, bringing people closer to art while helping them discover their inner emotion world.
As such, we remain committed to our current workshop-based business, educating the public that everyone has the ability to create—while continuing to seek opportunities to further develop ocean art furniture customization. Art is borderless, each piece carries its own story.
